Agreement to Our Legal Terms
We are W185 Holdings LLC (“Company,” “we,” “us,” “our”), a company registered in Wyoming, United States.
We operate the mobile application Lantern (the “App”), as well as any other related products and services that refer or link to these legal terms (the “Legal Terms”) (collectively, the “Services”).
You can contact us by email at support@strumguitarapp.com.
These Legal Terms constitute a legally binding agreement made between you, whether personally or on behalf of an entity (“you”), and W185 Holdings LLC, concerning your access to and use of the Services. You agree that by accessing the Services, you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by all of these Legal Terms. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH ALL OF THESE LEGAL TERMS, THEN YOU ARE EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED FROM USING THE SERVICES AND YOU MUST DISCONTINUE USE IMMEDIATELY.
Supplemental terms and conditions or documents that may be posted on the Services from time to time are hereby expressly incorporated herein by reference. We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to make changes or modifications to these Legal Terms from time to time. We will alert you about any changes by updating the “Last updated” date of these Legal Terms, and you waive any right to receive specific notice of each such change. It is your responsibility to periodically review these Legal Terms to stay informed of updates. You will be subject to, and will be deemed to have been made aware of and to have accepted, the changes in any revised Legal Terms by your continued use of the Services after the date such revised Legal Terms are posted.
The Services are intended for users who are at least 18 years old. Persons under the age of 18 are not permitted to use the Services.
We recommend that you print a copy of these Legal Terms for your records.
1. Our Services
Lantern provides maps of reported incidents and public sex-offender registry records, together with optional Circles, consent-based sharing of a person’s latest location, and check-in requests and replies. An active subscription is required for app access. A family plan can give access to other people, as described below. The Services are intended for adults aged 18 and older.
Lantern is not an emergency service, dispatch service, crime prediction tool, or guarantee of safety. Notifications concern family check-ins, not crime or offender proximity. In an emergency, contact local emergency services; in the United States, call 911.
Incident records
Incident records come from official city and county open-data sources and from archives bundled in the app. Current sources cover parts of Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC, Boston, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, San Antonio, Dallas, Denver, Baltimore, Columbus, Kansas City, Fort Worth, Tempe, Mesa, Buffalo, and Montgomery County, Maryland. The bundled archive includes Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles reports from May 12–18, 2025. Each source updates on its own schedule, and many publish with a delay of days or months. Lantern is not a live feed.
A record is a reported incident or a call for service. It is not a finding of guilt or proof that a crime happened. Publishers blur or round locations to a block, a street segment, or an area, and we show the publisher’s location. We withhold some sensitive call types. Records can be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, reclassified, or omitted. An absence of records does not establish that an area is safe. Reporting rules and privacy controls vary, so counts are not directly comparable between places.
Registry records
The Offenders layer shows a snapshot of public sex-offender registry records that we get from a commercial provider, CrimeoMeter. The snapshot is a sample and is not complete. A record shows the address on file with the registry. It is not the person’s live location. Registry information can be out of date, incomplete, or wrong, and a person’s registration status can change. Always check the original registry. Where available, the source link on a record opens it. Only the official registry is authoritative.
You must not use registry information to threaten, intimidate, harass, or harm any person, to commit a crime, or to discriminate in housing, employment, insurance, credit, or education. Misuse of registry information can be a crime. Lantern is not a consumer reporting agency. Do not use Lantern for any purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. To correct a registry record, contact the agency that maintains the registry. Tell us about a display problem in Lantern at support@strumguitarapp.com.
Source links and available dates are shown in the app and on our Coverage page. Lantern is independent of, and is not endorsed by, the source agencies or CrimeoMeter. Source terms and notices continue to apply to their data. The notices below are part of these terms. Apple supplies maps and place search under its terms.
Subscriptions and free trials
Lantern offers weekly and monthly auto-renewing subscriptions, for one person or as a family plan. The offer and the Apple purchase sheet show the current price, billing period, any free trial, and included access before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or when a free trial ends.
When an offer includes a free trial, the trial lasts for the period shown, such as 7 days. At the end of the trial, the subscription starts and renews automatically at the price and period shown, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Each Apple Account can use an introductory offer once per subscription group, under Apple’s rules. Cancelling during a trial normally ends access when the trial ends.
A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Apple charges the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel auto-renewal in Apple’s subscription settings, or with Manage subscription in Lantern. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. Deleting the app or your Lantern profile does not cancel a subscription. Apple handles billing and refund requests, subject to applicable consumer rights.
You can restore purchases from the offer, from the onboarding permissions step, or in Me → Settings. Restoring a purchase restores subscription access. It does not restore a deleted profile or Circle membership.
Family plan
A family plan covers the subscriber and up to 4 other people. The subscriber needs a Lantern profile and must be in a Circle with the people who use the seats. Lantern gives free seats to people in the subscriber’s Circles who do not have their own subscription, in the order that they joined, until all seats are used. A person keeps a seat while they share a Circle with the subscriber and the subscription is active. A seat ends when the subscription ends, when the subscriber and the seat holder no longer share a Circle, or when either account is deleted. A Circle can have up to 12 members, so some members can be without a seat.
A seat gives the same app access as the subscriber has. A Circle member without a seat, in a Circle with an active subscriber, can use People, check-ins, and their own location sharing and privacy controls. That member cannot see crime or registry data, or other people’s locations, until they get a seat or subscribe. An individual subscription gives no access to other people. Joining a Circle does not require a purchase. The subscriber, not the seat holders, is responsible for the subscription. The family plan is a Lantern feature. It is not Apple Family Sharing.

Our ownership claims do not extend to independently owned public records, Apple maps, or third-party content. Their owners retain their rights, and source terms control use of that content. Lantern’s share feature may be used to share attributed report summaries.

Source · Open Data PolicyDallas data notice
Dallas Police Department incident reports from Dallas OpenData (City of Dallas), published under the Open Data Commons Attribution License. Attribution: Dallas Police Department. Reports and classifications may change and do not establish guilt. The city geocodes reports to street addresses, so Lantern drops the exact address, apartment, names and victim fields at fetch time, keeps only the hundred block, and rounds coordinates to three decimal places (about 100 meters). Reports without coordinates are withheld. Source clocks use Dallas civil time (America/Chicago); ambiguous daylight-saving clocks are withheld. Family-violence, sensitive, medical and administrative reports are withheld. Checked daily; coverage is incomplete and this is not a live dispatch feed.
Columbus data notice
Columbus Division of Police incident reports from the City of Columbus open data portal, dedicated to the public domain under CC0. Reports and classifications may change and do not establish guilt. The city redacts records to protect victim privacy, places reports at the hundred block and does not map some reports; unmapped reports are withheld. Reports appear about three days after creation. Source clocks are Columbus civil time (America/New_York); ambiguous daylight-saving clocks are withheld. Sensitive, medical and administrative reports are withheld. Checked daily; coverage is incomplete and this is not a live dispatch feed.
Kansas City data notice
Tempe data notice
Tempe Police calls for service from the City of Tempe open data portal, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Source: City of Tempe. These are calls, not confirmed crimes. The city hides house numbers in the address but publishes unaltered points, so Lantern drops place names, unit and officer fields at fetch time and rounds coordinates to three decimal places (about 100 meters). Times use the source UTC clock, checked against the Tempe local hour (America/Phoenix, no daylight saving). Sensitive, medical and administrative calls are withheld. Checked daily; coverage is incomplete.
Baltimore data notice
Denver data notice
Denver Police Department crime offenses from the City of Denver Open Data Catalog, licensed under CC BY 3.0. Credit: City of Denver Open Data Catalog. Reports and classifications may change and do not establish guilt. The source moves sexual assaults to a separate aggregated layer. Some source addresses are exact, so Lantern keeps only the hundred block and rounds coordinates to three decimal places (about 100 meters) at fetch time. Source clocks are Denver civil time (America/Denver); ambiguous daylight-saving clocks are withheld. Sensitive, family and administrative offenses are withheld. Checked daily; coverage is incomplete and this is not a live dispatch feed.
Fort Worth data notice
Fort Worth Police Department crime reports from the City of Fort Worth open data portal, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Credit: City of Fort Worth Police Department. Reports and classifications may change and do not establish guilt. The source removes juvenile cases. The source geocodes reports to street addresses, so Lantern drops the address and projected coordinates at fetch time, keeps the hundred-block label and rounds coordinates to three decimal places (about 100 meters). Source clocks are Fort Worth civil time (America/Chicago); ambiguous daylight-saving clocks are withheld. Sensitive, family and administrative reports are withheld. The city updates the data once a week; coverage is incomplete and this is not a live dispatch feed.
Mesa data notice
Mesa Police dispatch events from the City of Mesa open data portal, available on an open license basis. Source: City of Mesa. These are calls, not confirmed crimes. The city places events on the hundred-block street centerline and removes the location of sensitive calls. Source clocks are Mesa civil time (America/Phoenix, no daylight saving). Sensitive, medical and administrative calls are withheld. The city updates the data daily; coverage is incomplete.
Buffalo data notice
Buffalo Police Department crime incidents from Open Data Buffalo (City of Buffalo), public domain. The information is preliminary and may change; it does not establish guilt. The source rounds coordinates to three decimal places (about 100 meters). Lantern drops the source street address at fetch time and keeps only the hundred block. Source clocks use Buffalo civil time (America/New_York); ambiguous daylight-saving clocks are withheld. Sexual offenses and other sensitive incidents are withheld. The city updates the data daily; coverage is incomplete and this is not a live dispatch feed.

7. Privacy Policy
Our Privacy Policy explains account, location, notification, search, and purchase processing. A profile is optional for browsing and required for Circles. Granting iOS location permission alone does not give other people access to your location. Sharing requires your choice of recipients; background sharing also requires a separate choice and appropriate iOS permission.
8. Term and Termination
These Legal Terms apply while you use the Services. You may stop using the Services at any time. Delete your profile in the app to remove account data, and cancel any subscription separately through Apple. We may restrict or discontinue access to Services we operate where reasonably necessary to address violations of these terms, protect the Services or other people, or comply with law, subject to applicable consumer rights. Provisions which by their nature survive termination will continue to apply.
9. Modifications and Interruptions
We reserve the right to change, modify, or remove the contents of the Services at any time or for any reason at our sole discretion without notice. However, we have no obligation to update any information on our Services. We will not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, price change, suspension, or discontinuance of the Services.
We cannot guarantee the Services will be available at all times. We may experience hardware, software, or other problems or need to perform maintenance related to the Services, resulting in interruptions, delays, or errors. We reserve the right to change, revise, update, suspend, discontinue, or otherwise modify the Services at any time or for any reason without notice to you. You agree that we have no liability whatsoever for any loss, damage, or inconvenience caused by your inability to access or use the Services during any downtime or discontinuance of the Services. Nothing in these Legal Terms will be construed to obligate us to maintain and support the Services or to supply any corrections, updates, or releases in connection therewith.
10. Governing Law
These Legal Terms and your use of the Services are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware applicable to agreements made and to be entirely performed within the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
11. Dispute Resolution
Binding Arbitration
If the Parties are unable to resolve a Dispute through informal negotiations, the Dispute (except those Disputes expressly excluded below) will be finally and exclusively resolved by binding arbitration. YOU UNDERSTAND THAT WITHOUT THIS PROVISION, YOU WOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO SUE IN COURT AND HAVE A JURY TRIAL. The arbitration shall be commenced and conducted under the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) and, where appropriate, the AAA’s Supplementary Procedures for Consumer Related Disputes (“AAA Consumer Rules”), both of which are available at the American Arbitration Association (AAA) website. Your arbitration fees and your share of arbitrator compensation shall be governed by the AAA Consumer Rules and, where appropriate, limited by the AAA Consumer Rules. The arbitration may be conducted in person, through the submission of documents, by phone, or online. The arbitrator will make a decision in writing, but need not provide a statement of reasons unless requested by either Party. The arbitrator must follow applicable law, and any award may be challenged if the arbitrator fails to do so. Except where otherwise required by the applicable AAA rules or applicable law, the arbitration will take place in Santa Clara, California. Except as otherwise provided herein, the Parties may litigate in court to compel arbitration, stay proceedings pending arbitration, or to confirm, modify, vacate, or enter judgment on the award entered by the arbitrator.
If for any reason, a Dispute proceeds in court rather than arbitration, the Dispute shall be commenced or prosecuted in the state and federal courts located in Santa Clara, California, and the Parties hereby consent to, and waive all defenses of lack of personal jurisdiction, and forum non conveniens with respect to venue and jurisdiction in such state and federal courts. Application of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and the Uniform Computer Information Transaction Act (UCITA) are excluded from these Legal Terms.
In no event shall any Dispute brought by either Party related in any way to the Services be commenced more than one (1) years after the cause of action arose. If this provision is found to be illegal or unenforceable, then neither Party will elect to arbitrate any Dispute falling within that portion of this provision found to be illegal or unenforceable and such Dispute shall be decided by a court of competent jurisdiction within the courts listed for jurisdiction above, and the Parties agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of that court.
Restrictions
The Parties agree that any arbitration shall be limited to the Dispute between the Parties individually. To the full extent permitted by law, (a) no arbitration shall be joined with any other proceeding; (b) there is no right or authority for any Dispute to be arbitrated on a class-action basis or to utilize class action procedures; and (c) there is no right or authority for any Dispute to be brought in a purported representative capacity on behalf of the general public or any other persons.
Exceptions to Arbitration
The Parties agree that the following Disputes are not subject to the above provisions concerning binding arbitration: (a) any Disputes seeking to enforce or protect, or concerning the validity of, any of the intellectual property rights of a Party; (b) any Dispute related to, or arising from, allegations of theft, piracy, invasion of privacy, or unauthorized use; and (c) any claim for injunctive relief.

AS WITH THE PURCHASE OF A PRODUCT OR SERVICE THROUGH ANY MEDIUM OR IN ANY ENVIRONMENT, YOU SHOULD USE YOUR BEST JUDGMENT AND EXERCISE CAUTION WHERE APPROPRIATE.
14. Limitations of Liability
IN NO EVENT WILL WE OR OUR DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFIT, LOST REVENUE, LOSS OF DATA, OR OTHER DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. NOTWITHSTANDING ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY CONTAINED HEREIN, OUR LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CAUSE WHATSOEVER AND REGARDLESS OF THE FORM OF THE ACTION, WILL AT ALL TIMES BE LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT PAID, IF ANY, BY YOU TO US DURING THE SIX (6) MONTH PERIOD PRIOR TO ANY CAUSE OF ACTION ARISING. CERTAIN US STATE LAWS AND INTERNATIONAL LAWS DO NOT ALLOW LIMITATIONS ON IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES. IF THESE LAWS APPLY TO YOU, SOME OR ALL OF THE ABOVE DISCLAIMERS OR LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU, AND YOU MAY HAVE ADDITIONAL RIGHTS.
15. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless, including our subsidiaries, affiliates, and all of our respective officers, agents, partners, and employees, from and against any loss, damage, liability, claim, or demand, including reasonable attorneys’ fees and expenses, made by any third party due to or arising out of: (1) use of the Services; (2) breach of these Legal Terms; (3) any breach of your representations and warranties set forth in these Legal Terms; (4) your violation of the rights of a third party, including but not limited to intellectual property rights; or (5) any overt harmful act toward any other user of the Services with whom you connected via the Services. Notwithstanding the foregoing, we reserve the right, at your expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter for which you are required to indemnify us, and you agree to cooperate, at your expense, with our defense of such claims. We will use reasonable efforts to notify you of any such claim, action, or proceeding which is subject to this indemnification upon becoming aware of it.
16. Profiles and App Data
New profiles use a display name and a credential stored on the device. We do not provide email-based recovery or transfer to another device for these profiles. Losing the device or its credentials may prevent access to the profile. Some accounts from our earlier beta use Sign in with Apple or an email address and password; Lantern does not offer new sign-ups of those types. Restoring an Apple purchase restores eligible subscription access, not a lost profile, Circle membership, or family plan seat.
You control location sharing with connected people and can pause it. Locations and check-in replies can be delayed by the network, battery settings, or iOS. Do not use Lantern to track anyone without their informed permission, impersonate someone, or harass people whose records appear in the app. Keep invitation codes private and share only content you have the right to provide.
You retain rights in your profile photo and other personal content. You give us permission to store, process, and display it only as needed to provide the Services and your selected sharing features, as described in the Privacy Policy. The feedback provisions elsewhere in these terms do not transfer ownership of your private profile, photo, location, or check-in information.
Delete a profile in Me → Settings → Delete account. An account-settings route remains available if paid access ends. Deletion removes account data from the active service as described in the Privacy Policy; other Circle members may keep their Circle. Cancelling a subscription is a separate action in Apple’s settings. Locally saved reports and preferences follow the operating system’s storage and backup behavior; we do not promise backups or remote bookmark sync.
17. Electronic Communications, Transactions, and Signatures
Visiting the Services, sending us emails, and completing online forms constitute electronic communications. You consent to receive electronic communications, and you agree that all agreements, notices, disclosures, and other communications we provide to you electronically, via email and on the Services, satisfy any legal requirement that such communication be in writing. YOU HEREBY AGREE TO THE USE OF ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES, CONTRACTS, ORDERS, AND OTHER RECORDS, AND TO ELECTRONIC DELIVERY OF NOTICES, POLICIES, AND RECORDS OF TRANSACTIONS INITIATED OR COMPLETED BY US OR VIA THE SERVICES. You hereby waive any rights or requirements under any statutes, regulations, rules, ordinances, or other laws in any jurisdiction which require an original signature or delivery or retention of non-electronic records, or to payments or the granting of credits by any means other than electronic means.
18. California Users and Residents
If any complaint with us is not satisfactorily resolved, you can contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, California 95834 or by telephone at (800) 952-5210 or (916) 445-1254.
19. Miscellaneous
These Legal Terms and any policies or operating rules posted by us on the Services or in respect to the Services constitute the entire agreement and understanding between you and us. Our failure to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Legal Terms shall not operate as a waiver of such right or provision. These Legal Terms operate to the fullest extent permissible by law. We may assign any or all of our rights and obligations to others at any time. We shall not be responsible or liable for any loss, damage, delay, or failure to act caused by any cause beyond our reasonable control. If any provision or part of a provision of these Legal Terms is determined to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable, that provision or part of the provision is deemed severable from these Legal Terms and does not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions. There is no joint venture, partnership, employment or agency relationship created between you and us as a result of these Legal Terms or use of the Services. You agree that these Legal Terms will not be construed against us by virtue of having drafted them. You hereby waive any and all defenses you may have based on the electronic form of these Legal Terms and the lack of signing by the parties hereto to execute these Legal Terms.
